I don't believe racism "is the center" of American culture. I think it's "AT the core" of American culture, which is to say it's not an add-on we can delete while leaving the "rest" of the culture intact.
Yes, the U.S. has many virtues. Why do people always receive criticism as meaning that the thing criticized has no good parts? Do I have to start all criticism of my country with "First, here's why I love America?"
But no, those virtues don't counter-balance the problems experienced today. And before you tell me to go back where I came from (which would be Los Angeles, CA), giving up on a problem and walking away is a very inefficient approach to problems in general.
